Frankincense Museum

Museum of the Frankincense Land is the only museum in Salalah, Oman. It’s an indoor museum with multiple halls, and variety of items on display. A frankincense tree lies in the middle of the museum. The museum has Artifacts excavated from Al Baleed, Sumhuram and Ash Shisr, which are other UNESCO sites, Governorate of Dhofar’s historical and archaeological heritage, Superb models of Omani boats from 3000 BC to current. There are two halls inside the Museum of the Frankincense Land – Maritime Hall and History Hall.


Al Baleed Ruins

Al Baleed Archaeological Park is an open air historical park in Salalah, Oman. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site and famous for the frankincense trade port in the past. The ruins in the park belong to the ancient city of Z̧afar which also covers the adjacent area in Ar Rubaţ. There are six most important things to see namely - Remains of Grand Mosque at Al Baleed, Ruins of Al Baleed Fort, Ruins of the City wall, The Lagoon at the Park, The Museum of the Frankincense Land, Bird Watching.


Al Hafah Souq

Al Hafah Souq lies 3 kilometres from the city of Salalah in Dhofar Governorate. It is surrounded by lofty coconut trees and is the perfect place to buy the best kinds of gum and incense, not only in Dhofar, but also in the Sultanate. It is replete with a variety of products, including traditional textiles and clothing, gold and silver jewellery as well as many other traditional artefacts.


Mughsail Beach

One of the most popular places to visit in Salalah is Mughsail Beach. With mountains encompassing the long stretch of white sand, you can sit down and gaze at the stunning blue hue of the sea. The ethereal beauty of nature around the beach makes it a perfect place for some photographs. You can even drive through the beach. There are also many cute traditional huts at the beach where you can have your own barbequed lunch. The numerous birds that come here make it a delight for aviator lovers. The backdrop of the setting sun amidst the mountains is the kind of view you are unlikely to forget anytime soon.


Taqah Castle

Taqah Castle is not only the most prominent landmark of Taqa but also one of the most distinguished landmark of Dhofar. It is located near Salalah, Oman. This castle was built in 19th century as a private residence of Sheikh Ali bin Timman Al Ma’shani. The castle is an example of grand architecture and is situated on Taqah, a small fishing village. The pristine beauty of nature around the castle, along with the beach, makes it even more popular. Now it is one of the most well-preserved museums that can offer an intriguing insight into Omani culture.


Wadi Darbat

Wadi Darbat is the most beautiful and spectacular place in Salalah city and the perfect place for mountain and nature lovers. Wadi Darbat is characterized by its virgin nature and blessed with thick botanical cover. Besides, the wadi has a natural spring along with a number of caves. The place is a perfect spot for spending a family day. Visitors can enjoy boat riding, feeding fishes in the lake. In addition, it is pretty accessible to have BBQ grill, which no other better place has barbecue in the region other than Wadi Darbat.


Khor Rori

Khor Rori is a village known for its many archaeological ruins. This site was discovered in 1900 and is now open to everyone, and contains a lot of ancient history.It is located about 25 miles from the city of Salalah. This village was formerly an ancient city in South Arabia. It has been classified a World Heritage site by UNESCO since 1998. The ruins are located on the sea coast, at the mouth of the Wadi Darbat. Inside the walls, you will find the old residential neighbourhoods, former shops, as well as areas for worship. This was a fortified city, located directly facing the sea to prevent invasions.


Wadi Dawkah

Wadi Dawkah is a natural park of famous Frankincense trees, which is also inscribed in UNESCO World Heritage Site. The wadi in Dhofar region of Oman is a stony, semi desert valley, where the density of frankincense trees spreads across 5 square kilometers. It is a habitat for Boswellia sacra type of Frankincense trees. Boswellia sacra is a tree in the Burseraceae family. It is the primary tree in the genus Boswellia from which frankincense is harvested. The Frankincense from this tree is considered the best type of frankincense. A lot of people from different parts of the world come to Salalah to see the frankincense trees. There is a viewing gallery at Wadi Dawkah for the visitors to sit and see the valley.


Salalah Garden's Mall

Salalah Gardens Mall is the first modern mall in Salalah and is also its largest mall. The design of the mall is a modern interpretation of traditional Omani architecture overlooking a large landscaped garden. The fountain at Salalah mall is an attraction to many, specially kids. In the evening children and families are found sitting around this color changing fountain, which has a sitting area around it.
